Job Description:



Our client needs to retain, catalogue and store every backup tape from nearly all of its 500 servers. No tape may be erased, reused or written over. This directive requires knowledge and expertise in tape storage retention systems including high speed server backup systems, tape management systems, centralized tape storage and various media and backup software. The project may also include the restoration of files from backups that include complex algorithms and matching routines for determining which files contain information pertinent to the litigation.







Our client has over 500 servers running Windows operating systems and these servers are managed by the central Server Support Unit. Our Client requires specialized expertise to manage, monitor and support the retention of over 3000 backup tapes per year from a variety of programs using different tape backup technologies. The consultant will be expected to coordinate the collection, transportation and off-site storage of these tapes to a secure storage facility. In addition to technical expertise, this project will require good verbal and written communication skills as well as good interpersonal, project management and organizational skills. All tapes must be carefully cataloged so they can be easily found and retrieved for restoration by Department Program, date and type of files. The consultant will also need to provide documentation, knowledge transfer and training to State staff to carry on the functions required under this management directive.















The consultant must have the following minimum qualifications.







3 years experience with Microsoft Windows server operating systems;

3 years experience supporting a server farm containing at least 30 servers;

3 years experience maintaining Compaq/HP/Proliant and DELL PowerEdge 2900 class servers or equivalents;

3 years experience installing, configuring, and upgrading Symantec Backup Exec Software (Versions 9.x ,10.x and 11.x);

Ability to analyze, design, and document procedures, business needs and technical requirements;

Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing;

Ability to produce written reports using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio.









C. Desirable Skills/Experience







The following qualifications are desirable for this position. They will be used in the evaluation of candidate’s qualifications.







MCSE certification or equivalent experience;

Knowledge of Symantec Backup Exec (Version 9.x , 10.x and 11.x) and its options (SAN Storage Option (SSO) and Central Administration Server Option (CASO);

College education in a computer related field;

Ability to manage and generate reports from databases such as SQL and Microsoft Access;

Experience with project management and excellent organizational skills;

Operation, installation, maintenance and support of various server and backup hardware, like HP tape libraries;

Knowledge and ability to use active directory and security controls;

Demonstrated ability to train others and provide knowledge transfer.
