Editorial and Publications Coordinator
Overview:
The Editorial and Publications Coordinator plays a key supporting role in the communication of Sundance Institute messages with tools executed across a range of media that express the organization’s position as a dynamic film and theatre organization. Materials include but are not limited to print publications, websites, and a presence in various online outlets for Sundance Institute and its annual Sundance Film Festival.
The position is responsible for developing language, coordinating the flow of information between various Institute departments, and for helping to assure consistency of message, tone, and information across materials and platforms. The Editorial and Publications Coordinator is also responsible for seeing specific projects through to completion.
Responsibilities:
Writing and editing
• Draft copy for monthly Institute e-newsletter to reflect activities and key messages of Sundance Institute’s various programs and activities. Generate complementary website updates as needed.
• Copy editing/proofreading of Institute publications including but not limited to program lab booklets, ads, event invitations, and Film Festival materials as needed
• Draft copy as needed for special initiatives and outreach activities.
Developing and implementing systems
• Work with key staff to develop standard process for responding to copy needs and materials requests throughout the organization.
• Coordinate trafficking of Institute print and web materials throughout the organization.
• Coordinate copy changes and updates to Institute and Festival websites, working with Web Coordinator.
• Work with Marketing staff and Web Coordinator to update Institute’s MySpace profiles with new and current content.
Projects and other duties
• Provide editorial and administrative support for Sundance Film Festival Daily Insider, a daily newspaper published during the Festival in Park City.
• Provide editorial support to Media Relations team to create and update press kit materials.
• Interface as needed with all internal departments, outside advertising agencies, consultants, and graphic design firms.
Education and Experience:
• Employee has legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and successful completion of DMV background check required.
• BFA in English, Journalism, or related field (or comparable program of study)
• Two years related work experience, including work with graphic designers and web site coordinators.
• Formidable copy editing and proofreading abilities
• Excellent communication and organization skills
• Interest in independent film and theatre and personal commitment to furthering the work of these artists
• Ability to work within Institute “voice” while also developing new and fresh language; A penchant for brevity
• Ability to draft copy in tone established by outside advertising/public relations entities, and for various mediums.
• Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks, especially when working on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Thorough knowledge of Microsoft word; Some proficiency with InDesign preferred
• Ability to travel to Utah to meet with departmental staff and for the Sundance Film Festival for two weeks each January.
