Program Director – National African American Tobacco Education Network

The Health Education Council is a private, non-profit agency dedicated to promoting healthy communities. The Council achieves this mission through health education/promotion programs and partnerships with other organizations involved in reaching populations at risk, particularly the medically underserved and ethnic minorities.
The National African American Tobacco Education Network is a national program funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Office on Smoking and Health. NAATEN is comprised of a group of national organizations (stakeholders) who serve African American (AA) communities.
The goals of NAATEN are to:
•Reduce the burden of tobacco use in AA communities
•Develop population based interventions to reduce the determinants of tobacco related health disparity among AA populations
•Build the capacity of stakeholder organizations to address tobacco control for their constituents
•Collaborate with state tobacco control programs to reduce tobacco use among AA populations
•Provide resources and expertise regarding tobacco prevention/cessation in AA communities
Program Director Responsibilities:
Manage staff and NAATEN stakeholder representatives to complete the Scope of Work activities. Responsibilities include:
•Direct NAATEN stakeholder policy initiatives
•Recruit new stakeholder representatives and foster relationships with stakeholder agencies
•Plan network tobacco control initiatives which include:
oFaith Based
oLeadership
oHealthcare Providers
oQuitline
•Present program related information at professional conferences and other meetings
•Develop and oversee overall program evaluation
•Documentation and report writing to funder.
Minimum Qualifications:
•Masters level degree and at least 5 year experience in managing health promotion or educational programs in the school, work, health and/or community setting.
•Demonstrated knowledge of community health program principles, practices, and techniques.
•CHES Certified (Certified Health Education Specialist) preferred.
•Mastery of community organization, program planning, marketing, implementation, evaluation, budgeting, and meeting management.
•Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications.
•Demonstrated skill in developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships and in meeting and working with all levels of staff, volunteers and the community.
•Ability and willingness to travel and work in the evenings and on weekends.
